When I get a bit of free time I'll uninstall and do a complete reinstall fresh from 2.5 zip file. Then try to rebuild the database similar to how I have it now to see if I can recreate the problem.

Ok, playing with this a bit more and I'm even more confused.

I can successfully post in two Topics. In another two I cannot post even though AMS says I was successful in posting. This led to the problem in my original post in this thread.

To make things even more interesting, I can post an article in a "working" Topic and then edit it to place it in the correct but "broken" Topic.

Very strange.

Could my problems be due to installing 2.42 and then overwriting with 2.5 beta and then updating as per standard Xoops modules? Would a completely fresh install make a difference?

I'm again running into the inability to post and I am trying to figure out why. However, in the meantime and the real reason I'm posting is I have 3 active articles that I have posted successfully and have tried on 4 others and each of them has failed.

The problem is the Spotlight template shows me as having 7 active articles.... The failures are being counted somewhere as being actual articles. This is particularly troublesome as I don't know if submitted articles by a non-webmaster will also count even if they don't get published.

I get a "Click here to download plugin" message when trying to embed Youtube videos. These are in Shockwave-Flash format. This is a real necessity nowadays for a News module.

Thanks for looking into it!

If you have a Topic name with an ' (apostrophe) in it, you cannot change the weight of that Topic. If you rename it without the apostrophe, change the weight and rename it back to the name with the apostrophe it will work.

Very strange. :)

I currently use SmartSection and some of the features I have grown fond of aren't available in AMS (yet).

1) Tag Support:
I would really like to see Tag support added. It helps users hone in on specific subjects quickly and find interrelationships. This one is really important to me.

2) Alternate Author Support:
I have users that log-in as themselves and post. But they want them to come from "dev team" or from a person with more authority instead of themselves. Being able to choose the name of the poster is really necessary.

3) Short URL's:
I know you are planning this. I just wanted to let you know that people really do want it. :)

4) SmartSection Intro/Body:
One feature that I really like from SmartSection is their Intro and Body with the option to repeat the Intro in the Body or to leave it out. This lets you give a teaser that has nothing to do with the article as an Intro and then the actual text of the article as the Body. This one isn't high on my priority list but it has been useful.

5) Customization:
Ability to turn on/off showing the author, date, time, reads, article ID in the article header/footer. Oftentimes, less information is better....

6) Show Categories in Title:
Ability to turn on/off category in article header. Other than the article image, there's nothing to let the reader know what category an article is in. It should be clickable so they can go straight to that category for more on that subject. It would be nice if the title was left justified and the category had options of right justified, before title "Category: Title" or after title "Title (Category)"

7) Top News and Recent News are nearly identical right now. It would be nice if one of them had more detail like category, author, post date, reads, number of comments. All of course with the ability to turn on/off. :)

None of the template really useful to me at this time which is frustrating.

8 )I'd like to see something along the lines of top articles (by date/rating/reads) for each category with them split out by category.

9) I'd like to see a template that posts the Title, Author, Date and Article Text with "read more" for each similar to how it looks now when you make AMS the module for your site's main page. This way it can be embedded into the Tab module nicely.

I was excited to see AMS is still being worked on due to the forum integration. Woot!

Your description in the Xoops news was excellent. It hit all the high points of the module and stated exactly what it should work on. I know it takes time to create a good news post but you nailed it. Well done and thank you!

Install of beta went smoothly. No problems.

Setup went smoothly (I thought, more on that later).

Posting however didn't work.

I uninstalled the beta and installed 2.42. It worked perfectly. Hmmmm....

And then I noticed the backend.php file. I had not overwritten the backend.php with the updated version because there weren't instructions to do so. User error as usual. :) Everything works as it should.

I didn't even notice it the first time through because the news posting, compatibility and everything were so darn complete. No install instructions led me to think I just needed to copy to mod folder and done.
